Really funny - Hitch Reviews
I figured this movie would have some funny moments, but I was astounded that it was almost a laugh-a-minute. Sure the story is completely predictable, but the fun is in actually seeing the characters play it out. It doesn't matter that you pretty much know what's going to happen next, it's funny anyway.
The acting was pretty good as well. Smith has always consistently been able to deliver lines that have the maximim laugh-factor. That guy from King of Queens will probably always play the fumbling big guy who is too nice for words, but he does it well. Eva Mendez is an ok actor, and she did a decent job. I thought her character was not written nearly as well as the others, sometimes I had trouble believing her.
Direction was pretty standard comedy affair. A few visual gags here and there, but for the most part, this movie relied on the dialogue. Visuals were crisp and to the point, no real special effects save for one. The makeup on Smith after he ingested a food he was allergic to was great. It looked realistic and he reacted to it in a realistic manner. Smith earns even more respect by allowing himself to be shown looking that bad.
Overall, it is a cute feel good movie with a lot of humor (both physical and mental). There is no sex, and virtually no violence. The language is a little abrasive, maybe even for a PG-13. Good watch.
